Seeing this after Bohemian Rhapsody may not be fair to a good, if not as accomplished as the Academy Award Winner, which also has a hero that may be more enticing than the Rocketman.

Freddie Mercury certainly had his flaws, but seemed overall more charming, like able, more of a hero than Elton John.
Evidently, this is subjective and a matter of taste, personal opinion and the manner in which Taron Egerton chose to portray his character.
Indeed, it is hard to decide if Elton John is 'the problem', with his moods, the myriad of ludicrous sunglasses and opulent, annoying for this viewer flamboyant costumes, or Taron Egerton.

The actor is talented- probably- but he is not too convincing, seems artificial at times and sometimes exaggerated.
He surely has a point and most likely he is right and I am wrong.

After all, Elton John is nothing if not exaggerated.
Nevertheless, there may still be the problem that an actor, in order to play fury would better avoid that state of mind.

Those who say they live the part are wrong.
Centuries ago, it was established that an actor has to be cerebral, detached and render the emotion, not feel it.

Elton John seems to have had quite a few issues in his childhood, his mother may have been incapable to love him.
His estranged father showed would could be conceived as affection for the step brothers that Elton would have, but for the future rock star he demonstrated a rigid, unsympathetic nature.

The love affair with John Reid is somewhat awkward, perhaps it is presented in the wrong manner, or maybe it just was strange, involving a man who was not emotionally attached, entertaining materialistic designs, leaving the hero to bear the tremendous psychological cost of the affair.

Perhaps I was never that keen on the real life star.
Extremely gifted as he was as a singer, musician, the man has never struck me as a like able individual.

Nonetheless, we learn from the film that he has raised hundreds of millions of dollars for charities and that makes him, at least from this point of view, a role model.
As for his addictions to drugs, sex, alcohol and shopping, the joke is that he's still overdoing the shopping, but for decades has been free of the other ailments.

Rocketman was not overwhelming for this cinephile, but you may find it spectacular.
