Brexit by James Graham

Brexit has been so much in the news, analysis, in The Economist, on the BBC, CNN, alerts, feeds on the internet that some are beginning to be overwhelmed by it.
I am.
Therefore the idea of watching a motion picture about this ever present calamity might seem more than wrong.
Having the astonishing Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role is an argument in favor of looking to see if he can deliver such an act as to keep the audience interested.
The feature has had its premiere in our local HBO last night.
And it is a good film.
Benedict Cumberbatch does not have the part of celebrity, someone like Boris Johnson.
The latter has the stature of a clown in the motion picture, same as Michael Gove.
Boris Johnson has won the infamous distinction of the most lamentable politician of the last year, or something similar, from what I see as the most I important media outlet...
The Economist
On the other hand, Michael Gove, for all his failed, calamitous positions before and during the referendum, seems to be one of the most interesting, intelligent leaders in Britain.
Like Johnson, in Brexit he is just a comical character, one that could have escaped from Little Britain.
Dominic Cummings, an unknown entity before this film for this viewer, is the antihero of the motion picture.
Machiavelli could not have done any better.
It seems.
This cunning, unscrupulous, determined, creative, vicious, ruthless strategist seems to be the British equivalent of Steve Bannon.
He is asked to think what the best slogans, strategy for the Leave campaign would be.
In the initial stages, it is
Take Control
His wife is expecting a baby and the modern day Machiavelli has some - difficult to quantity without using nanotechnology? - good qualities.
He is reading a book about being a good parent.
This is where he finds the concept of taking back control repeated...
Over and over.
He jumps from his bed and then he launches the mantra, leitmotif of the campaign that would take Britain out of the EU...
Or maybe not...we shall see of the talk of having a new referendum gets anywhere.
Unfortunately, these vicious people use false figures.
They launch a bus with the slogan...
Britain pays 350 million pounds every week to the EU.
If we leave, we will use that for the NHS.
A big, repeated lie and one among many.
Voters get to see now better that the milk and honey promised by the Leave camp - in fact there were two - will never materialize.
The pound has fallen, GDP will fall.
Only over the past few days, Nissan has announced that it would manufacture the X- trail model in Japan, not Britain.
Why?
Because of the uncertainty caused by Brexit.
Other leading business figures have warned of the dangers.
The head of Airbus has had only harsh words for what is going on, again, only over the past days.
Cummings and his colleagues have won the battle.
But at what cost?
Even people in EU countries would lose, if not at the same extent as the British will.
When faced with questions about the sorry state of things, long after the referendum, the antihero of this film blames...others.
One of the despicable things done in the period before the referendum was to abuse data obtained by
Cambridge Analytica and others.
This is an ongoing investigation.
But from what has been revealed, in the motion picture and the press, we can see that Facebook knows too much about us, the users...
They know - in approximately the words used on the screen - when someone stops loving his wife, what he or she thinks, almost Everything.
Personal data had fallen into the hands of nefarious entities.
One of which was the Leave campaign.
Well, the official one, for Nigel Farage and his friend had another outfit, working for the same unfortunate purpose.
Farage and his cronies seemed to be doing the dirty work.
They talked up the issue of I immigration.
A few years ago, it seemed impossible that the people of Britain would decide to leave, while the American voters would contemplate having a leader like Trump.
