Crazy, Stupid, Love by Dan Fogelman 7.7 out of 10

Crazy, Stupid, Love by Dan Fogelman
7.7 out of 10

Crazy, Stupid, Love is at times just that:

Lovely, but also rather silly in many scenes.

Ryan Gosling has been nominated for a Golden Globe.
Nevertheless, his performance as Jacob has not been so illustrious, if you ask this cinephile.

Plus, he was nominated for a leading role and the main character here is Cal, aka the amusing, charming Steve Carell.
In the opening scenes, we have one of the highlights of the comedy.

Cal is having dinner with his wife, Emily aka the always formidable Julianne Moore.
She has something very serious, rather calamitous on her mind.

Meanwhile, Cal is just concerned with the menu, if they would share a dessert.
Aggravated, his spouse almost shouts:

I want a divorce!

This is a thunderbolt or perhaps an asteroid hitting the man on the head.
Crushed, he would not speak.

But if would learn, while they drive back home, about his wife's infidelity.
She has had sex with David Lindhagen aka Kevin Bacon.

At one point, when his spouse would not stop her revelations, even after being asked to do so, Cal jumps from the moving car and hits the ground.
Later, we have the archetypal playboy enter the stage, Jacob aka Ryan Gosling.

There are some funny moments, when the innocent Cal learns how to be aDon Juan...well, as much as he can.
In the light of recent movements, MeToo and the others, quite a large portion of the comedy loses its touch and the presumed humor seems embarrassing, to say the least.

Jacob is the ultimate macho male, a serial 'killer' of emotions, womanizer d seducer absolute.
He meets with Hannah aka Emma Stone and she is the daughter of the hopeless Cal.

None of them knows anything about the connections the others have with the rest of the trio.
Up to a dramatic climax, she four men would fight each other.

Cal has never had sexwith any other woman except Emily.
When he finds that the Ultimate Cassanova is seeing his daughter, he is outraged.

I will not allow it!
He says.

Then, in the ensuing scene, the father of the babysitter jumps into the fray.
And so does the lover,David Lindhagen.

The babysitter thought she has fallen in love with Cal.
As a consequence, she took some nude photos of herself, to send to him.

When her father accidentally found them and the addresse, he went mad and drove to kill the adult he thought had seduced his underage child.
However,poor Cal had no idea.

Father fights Cal who fights Jacob and then David is in the fighting game that has some humor in it.

Otherwise, it is not the best comedy you can watch.
Try King of Comedy to get to the best ten ever made.

Or Monty Python's Life of Brian, which could well be The Best Comedy Ever.
