Fahrenheit 11/9,
written and directed by Michael Moore
Seven out
of 10
Michael Moore
is both revered and loathed, perhaps in equal measure, although on the
different sides of the political divide.
Although this
viewer is decidedly in the Hilary Clinton camp – given the section on Bernie
Sanders included in this documentary, perhaps because of that – very opposed to
the clown in the White House, the feelings after seeing this feature are more
than mixed.
There are
excellent points made in this and the other Michael Moore productions – as his adversaries
emphasize, indeed, we learn from Fahrenheit 11/9 that Trump had many laudatory
words for Roger and Me – though he remarked he would not like it if he were
Roger – as did Jared Kushner (who has hosted the launching event for one of the
famous documentaries) and Steve Bannon, who was associated with the launching
of Sicko.
But there
are also many bizarre moments, others that do not seem to throw a light or
prove the monstrosity that Moore is trying to suggest – like the moment when he
is asking a speaker for the governor of Michigan to drink water from a glass
that he claims to have brought from Flint, where the water had caused deaths,
disease and a calamity, but which the man refuses to drink, without proving
anything.
Then the
movie maker takes a truck and fills it with water from the same hard hit town,
taking it to the residence of the hate figure, governor Rick Snyder, who does
not answer the call at the gate and thus encourages Moore to…use a hose and
spread the water from the tank on the lawn near the entrance to the residence…
What was
that about?
Did it
achieve anything? Some dead grass – maybe – near the gates would be sufficient reason
to spend so much fuel, energy and time in the film to prove – again – what exactly?
As aforementioned,
for those of us placed in the democratic camp, the film offers moments to enjoy
– although for the undersigned, who has experienced the “bliss” of socialism,
the praise for Sanders, Cortez and the message that the hard left should get
the upper hand is more than scary, preposterous, it is outright stupid: I have
seen the extreme left in action and those who support it should read Animal
Farm, 1984 and try to live in North Korea and then sing the praise of socialism
– communism.
It is amusing
to see so many celebrities, experts, political analysts laugh at the idea of
the Orange Sphincter – as Bill Maher calls him – and the fact that the Oldest
Democracy in the World has come so far as to elect a buffoon is still jocular –
from George Clooney to rappers and CNN panel guests.
Michael Moore
shares a propensity to show off with his number one enemy, the ridiculous
Donald, for he insists on the fact that he had warned that the big liar is dangerous,
for he knows the people in states that would eventually vote for him and there
can be a calamity.
Then the
writer director parades his persona too much in front of the camera, amid the
survivors of the Florida mass shooting, at the offices of the Michigan
governor, where he goes for a citizens ‘arrest, with handcuffs and all, then at
the residence where he preposterously throws some Flint water at the front of
the garden – for no good reason – and in too many other instances.
The criticism
directed to the leadership of the Democratic Party is justified to a certain extent,
but then it becomes as wrong as to make at least this viewer feel like watching
a Trump propaganda message…
Sanders has
won some states and the subliminal and evident conclusion coming from Moore is that
the poor old man has been so abused and cheated.
Bill Clinton
was wrong, then his wife and the whole machine that has moved too far to the
right, when the good move is towards…what?
Communism?
It is not
the open message, but again:
Michael Moore
should not just look at Cuba from a distance, as he did when sending the
message that the American Health Care System is a disaster – which it is not, even
if it faces huge challenges – in Sicko.
He should
stay in North Korea!
Not for a
day or two, but for a year.
Then he
would be justified in singing the praises of the hard left systems and all that
they do for the citizens.
Fahrenheit 11/9
exposes many flaws in the system that has brought to power individuals that
have outrageously lost the popular vote – in the present case of the ridiculous
leader of the world by three million votes – even when the country had voted
for Al Gore or Hilary Clinton.
However, the
style of the film, the omniscient, ever-present Michael Moore ends up by
offering a rather unpleasant experience.
