Even for a film made for television, the inclusion of James Franco in the cast should bring a lot of attention.
Somehow, High School Lover has not managed that.

And the film is not bad.
It is not outstanding either.

Kelley Winters is the seventeen year old protagonist of the film.
Rick Winters aka James Franco is the father who is in a relationship with a woman who is not the teenager's mother.

Hence the is tension between the girl and her father's partner.
Nevertheless, the near tragedy is brought about a ...film star.

Christian Booth is a popular actor, twenty five years old and interested in the under age Keeley.
The girl, excited, overwhelmed by the status, looks and initial charm of this celebrity accepts his advances.

Her father though is trying to protect her and comes with her to a concert where he meets the star, unaware of the growing intimacy between his daughter and an adult.
Very soon, she is on a helicopter ride with the evidently rich, manipulative villain and she offers him oral sex.

Even if it was her initiative, given her age, this is statutory rape.
Furthermore, things take a nasty turn when the vile celebrity becomes violent.

There may even be a murder, in what becomes a thriller.
Not remarkable, but perhaps watchable drama.
