Land of the Lost, by Chris Henchy and three others
6 out of 10
Having Will Ferrell and Danny McBride in leading roles in a comedy can be exciting and rewarding.
Only in this particular case, a joke said by Groucho Marx, as he walked out of a party comes to mind:
'Thank you!
I've had a wonderful time...only not this time!'
Critics seem to agree on average in destroying it.
Apart from the Chicago Times, which gave it a 75 out of 1000 score, others were less pleased.
Upset actually.
Austin Chronicle with 20, Variety with 30, Boston Globe 38 are just a few of the critics that discarded as Lost, this comedy.
And yet, you could have a few laughs.
Especially if you come with low expectations.
Perhaps one other solution is to look for a while and then just drift away when it all becomes preposterous.
The premise is familiar from the likes of Jurassic Park and other Science Fiction films like it.
Doctor Rick Marshall aka Will Ferrell and his assistant, Holly Cantrell aka Anna Friel, work on an outre experiment.
Danny McBride as redneck Will Stanton is the one guiding them through a cave furnished as a local tourist attraction.
It is a modest theme park, where visitors are supposed to be scared, perhaps mortified by various props.
There are some rubber figures maneuvered by some employees- or is it just one.
This can be amusing, for instead of terrifying the customers, they fall flat.
Machines or just figures are not operated at the proper moment and fall flat.
Anyway, a real Event is in motion and for a while this is also funny...to a degree...
A small degree.
Is this your doing?
No, we have nothing to do with this...or words to that effect are exchanged between doctor and show host
They are all sucked into a vortex and reach Jurassic Park...
Well, sort of.
Some of the exhibitions there can be amusing.
Two figures from the Planet of the Apes are in the process of killing a third.
Will Stanton shows off his courage and mastery of the unpredictable.
I know how to deal with this..
.
I will use fire
Only the lighter falls from his hand, when he burns his finger.
When they are followed by a hungry or just annoyed dinosaur, a Tyrannosaur I guess, we have perhaps the last smile.
As they are chased and most likely about to be eaten, Stanton wants a...phot taken.
Instead of opting for a selfie, he has his companions take it.
And Holly has doubts...
Are his eyes red?
Should we eliminate that effect?
She does not say these exact words, but the fact is that, with the fast approaching monster on their tails, she is musing about the artistic value of the photo.
Yes it can be the last art they create...
The last thing they do period, but come on...
Hurry up!
It seemed all downhill from here.
I couldn't take it anymore, like the famous character from The Network...
'I'm mad as hell and I can't take it anymore '
