Avengers: Infinity War, based on comics, characters created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and others
8 out of 10
Audiences seem to love The Avengers, the latest breaking the box office record held by Avatar.
Perhaps surprisingly, critics have also been rather enthused by what is still for this viewer a lower form of entertainment.
'Supremely watchable' writes The Guardian.
Indeed, with a stellar cast that seems the paradigm of nec plus ultra, Rolling Stone is right in saying 'The Avengers leaves viewers up in the air, feeling exhilarated and cheated'
Jocularly, I would say that the exhilarated viewers must be teenagers.
For more serious cinephile, like the pretentious undersigned, Avengers still feels like the typical tall tale one tells children before bed time.
Take the main concept, that of Thanos and the seven special stones.
I mean, are you kidding me?
The ultimate monster collects some ridiculous gems and he can then put to sleep the whole dream team...
Doctor Strange, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Spider Man...
Those who have placed this among the top rated films, at 58, are surely hypnotized by the special effects, the fights between fantastic beasts, the Wakanda warriors, Avengers, Thanos and all these comics figures.
Still, it feels like Too Much Ado About Nothing...
Even if, we can all understand that there are deeper significances in the story, which is also about love, sacrifice, valor, bravery, humanity, resilience and so many more values and qualities, on top of the continuous, dazzling clash of titans.
