No, it could not happen to you...not in a million years and anyway, not in the manner that  it takes place in this comedy drama.

The upside is that the most important, gratifying, spectacular aspect of the film is possible though.
Given that the film was released in 1994, Nicholas Cage was still in that period of his career when he took part in movies that we can see.

And enjoy.
I hear that in the meantime, as he has filmed in our part as well, he has become a difficult, nay, obnoxious individual who acts in forgettable features.

In this film, he is not as good as in Leaving Las Vegas, but Charlie Lang, the police officer he portrays is a more than decent man.
Indeed, if he is not Superman or an Avenger, he does become a role model, with his magnanimous act, the munificence and then courage that he demonstrates.

As he doesn't have money with him to leave a tip, he uses the lottery ticket his wife, the terrible Muriel Lang, had instructed him to buy as a guarantee that he will come back to fulfill his obligation.
Thus, when the ticket is a winner, he would have to share the four million with the waitress, Yvonne Blasi aka Bridget Fonda..what happened to this actress, by the way...

This infuriates Muriel Lang, eventually, the inappropriate marriage would be in a serious crisis,if it hasn't been there for ever.
Muriel is one of the most annoying personages on screen.

The plot is not very interesting, to repeat, it can never happen like this.
The chances of winning the lottery are already infinitesimal, but to couple this with the tip for the waitress and all the rest borders on the impossible.

Nevertheless, there is an important side of the narrative which is worthwhile.
The fact that love conquers all and beats money is now proved by research.

For studies have looked at what happens with lottery winners and it was discovered that yes, they become happier, but only for a few months, after which the big gain stops having any effect and they return to their base level of happiness.
