Zodiac is a very rewarding motion picture, even if or due in part to the fact that the ending is not offering the clear cut answer to the puzzle, or at least this viewer has not come to the absolute conclusion:

This is the Zodiac

The antihero of the film is a serial killer, whose name is as aforementioned uncertain, who is almost definitely a psychopath, engaged in a cat and mouse game with the investigators and journalists.
After murdering people, the monster writes coded messages, demanding that his notes are published, calling policemen pigs, threatening and blackmailing the authorities.

Given the little evidence they have,investigators are forced to deal with a large, maybe huge is a better word, number of suspects.
When asked, three thousand two hundred is the number stated at one point.

Evidently, some come very close to being not just the principal suspects in the case, but some of the law enforcers are desperate to charge them.
Indeed, Inspector David Toschi aka Mark Ruffalo admits after one particular search that he may have wanted this man to be the one that he can't accept the result that his writing does not match,his guns are not connected with the murders.

There is more than a suspicion that Arthur Leigh Allen is the brute, with his many squirrels, kept in squalor, killed and placed in the refrigerator, his incriminating statements,  two pistols and one M1 gun.
Actually, he could be the Zodiac...but maybe he isn't.

The movie is based on the book by Robert Graysmith aka the wonderful Jake Gyllenhaal.
Graysmith is a cartoonist and he becomes deeply involved in the solving of the mystery.

As the years pass and the murderer is not apprehended, the cartoonist becomes the one who looks into all the files, makes the necessary connections and ultimately finds the monster.
There seem to be enough clues in order for intrepid viewers to say with conviction: 

It is Arthur Leigh Allen...or maybe another one

I am eighty percent sure that I know the Zodiac.
But it is not foolproof.
