Light of My Life, written and directed by Casey Affleck
8.4 out of 10
Although rather impressive on some levels, this drama has been quite hard to connect with and understand for this cinephile.
Casey Affleck has been acclaimed for his performances, the one from Manchester by the Sea, with which this film has some similitudes, has won him an Oscar.
But he is often difficult to comprehend and the atmosphere of the movie is dark, gloomy, most of the time terrifying.
Affleck is Dad, the father of a teenage girl, Rag aka the impressive Anna Pniowsky, who tries hard to protect his daughter, most frequently passing her for his son.
Given that half of humanity had perished as a premise for this film, the world is a very dangerous, often deadly place.
In fact, Dad would have to confront quite a few enemies along the way and he had trained his child to obey him and follow the instructions for emergency escapes, whenever the alarm is sounded.
The motion picture is worth more praise, probably.
Nevertheless, this viewer has just found it commendable, not overwhelming.
