Grosse Pointe Blank, starring and written by John Cusack and a few others
8.4 out of 10
Once upon a time, John Cusack was a popular, effective romantic lead.
Grosse Pointe Blank is one of the motion pictures where the charm, pleasant persona of the actor adds to the value of this comedy.
He plays Martin Q. Blank, an assassin who justifies his profession at one point by saying he does not kill people for pleasure.
He does it for the money
Dan Aykroyd is Grocer, his colleague and eventually his nemesis, after the younger killer refuses to join the syndicate, outfit designed by the older hit man.
Grocer talks about the competition from Eastern Europe, the excellent Philipino assassins, masters of the hotel killings.
Ergo, he has in mind an organization that would even have shares and offer its members and associates the opportunity to negotiate better scores, payments for the murders they would commit.
Since Blank refuses, he would have to fight Grocer through intermediaries and then directly.
Joan Cusack, the real life sister of John Cusack, is her assistant, Marcella, in this action comedy.
Minnie Driver also adds spice and humor to the film, as Debi Newberry, the woman the hit an loves and the one he would have to win back and convince he is not so bad...
He only kills for the money, not for pleasure.
