One Last Thing is a very charming, thought provoking film.

It has had its premiere on our local Cinemax channel and it was a joy to watch.
Wendell Pierce is a very charming, talented actor, who has the leading role of Dylan Derringer in this motion picture.

We can say that his achievement, of making the audience like him is even more remarkable if we consider that he is a dentist in the film.
Who likes dentists?

This middle aged man has been trying to find his estranged child.
One day, he has news and is informed that his daughter lives in Brooklyn.

The hero lives and works in Florida.
Traveling to see the girl is emotional and takes a toll on the man who does not know how to approach his daughter.

Therefore he follows her for two days, finding she has a girlfriend, they kiss in a bookshop, under the spying eyes of the father.
The dentist falls over a shelf of books on display, as he tries to keep his presence incognito.

In fact, not finding the courage to confront the young woman with this troubling, potentially traumatic news, Dylan Derringer decides to fly back to Florida.
While he waits at the embarkation lounge, he sees a woman reading to her two children from a story book.

This makes such a strong impression that he returns and approaches his daughter in a coffeehouse.
She is upset and rejects this stranger that she thinks is a freak, a man who harasses women in public.

Nevertheless, they get to know each other and become close.
He finds that she suffers from a condition that could kill her.

Furthermore, her health insurance would not allow for her to get a kidney transplant.
She needs one badly, for one of hers is not functioning and the other is now about to defect as well.

The father thinks about it,hard and serious, for he even prepares a will, letters in case he would not wake up after his plan is set in motion and led to fruition.
Dylan Derringer has determined to donate the organ for his child.

The insurance company demands a series of rigorous tests and this is when he finds out that the DNAs do not match:

He is not the father!
It has been a mistake.

The young woman who was so elated to find that she has a future, she will live, is now devastated.
This is a very provocative, intelligent, unexpected turning point in the script!
