Bloody Sunday, written and directed by Paul Greengrass
9 out of 10

We can see very well why Bloody Sunday has been included on The New York Times' Best 1,000 Movies Ever Made list.

It is the terrifying, haunting dramatization of the protest march that took place on January 30, 1972 and ended with the death of innocent people.
Paul Greengrass is the phenomenal writer-director, who gave us recently 22 July, was universally acclaimed for United 93, both reviewed at realini.blogspot.com

Ivan Cooper aka excellent James Nesbitt is the organizer of the March that is supposed to be peaceful, in sharp contrast with the position of the IRA, which bombed the British military that they saw as occupiers and killed a multitude of civilians as well.
Indeed, members of the terrorist group talk with Ivan Cooper before the event and say that this is not getting anywhere.

On the other side, Major General Ford aka formidable Tim Pigott -Smith is the commander of the forces that would eventually go on a rampage.
The British would shoot dead thirteen people, most of them young and all innocent, and wound many others.

The awful General would then praise the troops and say that they have done their duty,
Spoiler alerts are not called for here...I think.

The title of the movie tells it all and the day has gone down in history, people refer to it now that Brexit may end up compromised the Good Friday accord.
The result of the killings is excellently explained by Ivan Cooper, who says that through their abomination, the British forces have given the IRA their biggest victory, a propaganda vehicle like no other, making them enlist so many men following this Bloody Sunday.

The film ends with the memorable U2 Bloody Sunday song...

'I can't believe the news today...
Bodies strewn across the dead end street...
There's many lost, but tell me who has won
The trench is dug within our hearts
And mothers, children, brothers, sisters torn apart...'
