You, Me and Dupree by Michael LeSieur - 7 out of 10

You, Me and Dupree by Michael LeSieur
7 out of 10

Perhaps this is the type of comedy that relies on the charm and skills of the actors that bring it to the screen.

A little too much...

Yes, it is a pleasure to watch Kate Hudson, but she is so much better in motion pictures that have substance, a wonderful story...say Almost Famous?
The same applies for Owen Wilson, a likable comedian, but it helps if he has the script of Midnight in Paris to work with.

We will remember Matt Dillon from There's Something About Mary...I am not sure about Dupree.
As for Michael Douglas...Wall Street, the more recent Behind the Candelabra would be examples of productions where we can all appreciate his talent more.

Then there is Seth Rogen, Bill Hader and...even Lance Armstrong, but the latter was there because this was filmed before it would be discovered that the glorified athlete used more than his muscle power to propell himself to the top.

Soon after Carl aka Matt Dillon is married with Molly aka Kate Hudson, they are present with a challenge, an adversity that takes the shape of Dupree aka Owen Wilson, the best friend of the recently wedded architect.
This friend is apparently hopeless, for he is forced to sleep on a bed in a bar, up to the point where other clients feel this is unfair competition...why wouldn't they be allowed to sleep there?

The compassionate friend takes the homeless man to his house, where the wife is not thrilled.
What happens next is a confirmation of her divining powers or of the Thin Slice Principle explained in Blink, The Power of Thinking Without Thinking by the acclaimed Malcolm Gladwell.

When they leave for their jobs in the morning, the man and wife have to pass by the naked posterior of the guest.
Left alone in the house, he mishandles the toilet and causes other damages.

Culminating in a burnt house...
Well, not completely, but part of it.

When he is evicted finally, it is Molly that feels sorry for him and takes him out from a pouring rain.
As for his friend, when they have a meal together and Mr. Thompson aka Michael Douglas is present, Carl jumps over the table to kill Dupree and then he is knocked out by his father in law.

Plenty of comic situations then?
Not really, no...

You, Me and Dupree is mildly amusing though.
