For those who love Science Fiction, this motion picture is probably dazzling.

For the rest, which includes this cinephile, the result is less jubilant.
It is a pleasure to watch George Clooney, Britt Robertson, Hugh Laurie and Raffey Cassidy, but some of the themes seem far fetched.

The film must be praised nevertheless for the fact that it does warn us about the future of the planet.
Even the part with the negative message broadcast to the point where it becomes self fulfilling prophecy has some merit.

Positive psychology studies have shown that people who are optimistic, positive live longer, more successful private and professional lives, get sick less often and when they do, they stay so for shorter periods.
Having a repeated message that indicates the earth would die in about fifty days would surely have a huge, potentially catastrophic impact.

The other scenario, in which we are now, is just as calamitous if not more.
Leaders like Trump, Bolsanaro and so many other con artists and rogues deny climate change and act accordingly, with devastating consequences.

That is the part of the film, where the future of the planet is at stake, which merits attention and praise.
The manner in which they approach the script, the fights, rocket launch from the Eiffel Tower are questionable, to say the least.

But hey, the movie does attract the attention of a segment of the population that is probably impervious to the alarm sounded by scientists to the most important problem of our time.

And that is essential.
