Edtv, by Sylvie Bouchard and three others
8.7 out of 10
At a time when America, and alas the whole western world, is led by a reality television star, with little brain power to use, except to whine and fire off stupid, insulting, mad tweets multiple times, every single day, Edtv sounds rational, insightful and even prophetic.
In the sense that the madness we see in the film, which at times borders the pathetic, with large audiences glued to their screens at home, in offices, malls and everywhere else, may have looked somewhat exaggerated, but the result is that we have someone in command of the most dangerous army in the world, who waits until the last ten minutes to learn how many people would die as a consequence of his order.
That was the scenarios presented for an alleged strike against Iran, when he canceled the operation because he was told the number of casualties with ten minutes to go...
The orange man is a pathological liar, with dementia, Narcissistic Personality Disorder and other ailments, so his statement was just one of ten thousand counted lies, but even if we take his word for it...
He is waiting for the last minutes to know how many would die?
What if the number was four million people? And he forgot to ask for it?
Returning to The Apprentice of this movie, Ed aka Matthew McConaughey is a rather pleasant individual who becomes a star, much like the many instant celebrities that work on the Island of Love, once upon a time at the Big Brother Mansion, orthodox infamous Apprentice.
There are many good moments in a film that has a superb cast:
Woody Harrelson, I would have selected him for the lead role, the fabulous Martin Landau, Ellen DeGeneres, Rob Reiner and other wonderful performers.
True, the motion picture had its critics...The Rolling Stone said about it:
'Satire in a blanket of bland'
I would say that a blanket of bland is not so accurate, with the hindsight already mentioned...reality television, with its negative effects on the brain, has offered the propulsion needed for the present occupant of the White House.
Not bland!
Tragic!
