Albeit honorable, the age of this film does nothing to make it more worthwhile.

The special effects were surely state of the art in 1992, but they are lame in the present.
If the feature is a chef d'oeuvre, time does nothing to alter the value of Casablanca, Some Like It Hot, Citizen Kane and others like them.

But for a rather modest motion picture such as Patriot Games, it may annihilate any attraction.
With Harrison Ford, the fierce, feared pilot of the present, when his flying over California can cause panic, in the leading role, the budget of the movie was anything but modest, surely.

The result must have been pleasant, if not more and the fare has a Metascore of 64.
Not overwhelming, but neither a disaster, we are to presume from it.

In fact, the film promises more than it delivers, in terms of cast and a fast, engaging introduction.
Harrison Ford is Jack Ryan, a CIA analyst that finds himself in the middle of a terrorist attack.

He is visiting Britain, when the IRA, very vicious at the time, is in the process of killing one of their multiple targets.
Splendidly Trained, superhero that he is, the American stops the murder and responds when attacked.

Sean Bean plays Sean Miller, an IRA fanatic, a psychopath that is caught and send to trial as a consequence.
His bother is killed though.

Sean Miller would stop at nothing in order to get his revenge.
Including killing his own companions.

What follows is the cliche of the confrontation between the Good and the Bad.
Who wins?

Just as usual.
