A Most
Violent Year by JC Chandor, with Oscar Isaac http://realini.blogspot.com/2019/02/suburbicon-written-by-joel-coen-ethan.html
9 out of 10
It is
surprising to find that 1981 was The Most Violent Year in the history of New
York, however clear the statistics are – crime has fallen and in that sense,
the title of the motion picture is accurate, and we can even read about the causes
for the drop, no matter how controversial some explanations can be…
Take The
Tipping Point http://realini.blogspot.com/2013/08/the-tipping-point-by-malcolm-gladwell.html by Malcolm Gladwell, maybe the most
influential psychologist of our time, which looks at criminality, the
association between broken windows, high rates of small infractions and the
more serious felonies, the way the authorities cracked down on public urination,
skipping the gates in the subway…
When the
police and others involved applied the law, imposed fines, the number of
killings, robberies also dropped – in another book, we read how Bloomberg made
the diplomats pay for their illegal parking, and then places like Bulgaria, UAE
and others, stopped having hundreds of notices, and began putting their cars in
the right places – because where people see neglect, they are encouraged to
misbehave…
There is of
course a different attitude today, when in many more liberal, blue places in
America, the local officials have talked of, then implemented measures to
reduce incarceration, so they stopped putting convicts behind bars, for most
crimes, and thus a backlash ensued, and we have in what was once ‘the greatest
democracy in the world’ a divided, very conflictual society, with republicans
and democrats mostly hating each other…
There are
excesses on both sides, but I am horrified by what happens on the right of the
political divide, where around seventy million see in Trump a viable leader,
whereas I am sure that this A Most Violent Man, hence the surprise expressed in
the first line, I see those past years as The Most Violent Ones, even if there
was ‘less blood on the streets’, the public, political verbiage is extremely aggressive
Then how
can 1981 be A Most Violent Year, when on January 6, 2021 the world has seen the
most outrageous insurrection, with vandals occupying the American Congress, and
if only a few died, well, democracy has entered what could well be its terminal
phase: if Trump wins next year, then China will rise, and with it, the model it
promotes, one of tyrnanny, and then the rest of humanity will just look at more
despots
We have
Bukele in Salvador, who is not just a despot, but one with…eighty or ninety
percent popularity, and that is not the kind of polling done in places like
Russia, China, North Korea, where you cannot believe what the officials tell
you, and if you ask people on the street, they are too afraid to tell the
truth, and/or they have been brainwashed, as it happens in North Korea, and we
have seen it in our land, here…
Oscar Isaac
is Abel Morales, married to Anna Morales aka Jessica Chastain – one of the best
artists in the world http://realini.blogspot.com/2017/09/miss-sloane-by-jonathan-perera-with.html - and they have a business selling
oil, which is under attack from a gang of gangsters that had taken thousands of
liters from them already, abusing, beating the drivers, and causing their finances
to reach the brink of bankruptcy
On top of
that, the DA aka David Oyelow is soon to charge Abel Morales with quite a few
counts, making me think of the symbol of dishonesty, the paradigm of the crook,
Donald Trump, who is not just the first president to be impeached twice, but he
now has a record of accusations against him, a loathsome behavior in short.
Nevertheless,
Abel Morales is a complicated man, who tries to play the game, but at the same
time ‘find the most right path’, this is what he tells the investigator, and he
tries that, however difficult it could be, and when it gets impossible, he
still has to try and stay within some limits – at one point, he chases after
the stolen truck, runs after the man that had kidnapped it, and after scenes
reminding one of The French Connection, he throws the enemy down, kicking and
hitting his face with a gun, in anger
However,
pumped up and mad with fury, asking the goodfella to say who had hired him to
steal the trucks and getting no answer, Abel points the pistol at the face,
pushing it against the eye of the man who is down, on the pavement, and we
think maybe he will press the trigger and murder the nemesis, only he stops before
it is too late, and lets the hooligan run free, the latter then tells him the
truth…
The
competitors had gathered together and had told Abel that they had had nothing
to do with the attacks on his fleet of trucks, but he explains that they had
been the only ones with the capacity to store that much fuel, and therefore it
was one of them, two or more that had used his misfortune to advance their vile
interests, and with the capture of the gangster, he now has the proof that
indeed, he had been right
There are
many other aspects, indeed, most that make the movie an excellent entertainment,
for instance, Morales tries to make an important investment and buys from
Orthodox Jews, under somewhat onerous terms, if he does not bring the whole
amount, the forty percent he had given them would be lost, and with that,
everything he owes, when they meet for signatures, Anna has to stay outside, because
the fundamentalism of these men (there is no woman among them) requires that…
Now for a
question, and invitation – maybe you have a good idea on how we could make more
than a million dollars with this http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/02/unique-in-world.html?q=unique+in+the+world – as it is, this is a unique technique, which
we could promote, sell, open the Oscars show with or something and then make
lots of money together, if you have the how, I have the product, I just do not
know how to get the befits from it, other than the exercise per se
As for my
role in the Revolution that killed Ceausescu, a smaller Mao, there it is http://realini.blogspot.com/2022/03/realini-in-newsweek-participant-in.html
