It is rare to find a book that is listed among the best, in this case The Top 100 Best Books of the Modern Library https://poemeglume.blogspot.com/2023/08/top-100-modern-library.html and then see that the adaptation is also a master work, my guess is that you can find it with the TIME All 100 Best Movies, and if not, then it must be on the New York Times’ Best 1,000 films, to continue on this path, let me say then that if it is on neither site, then you do have it with my favorites, and this should be quod erat demonstrandum, both film and printed magnum opus are exhilarating and magical…

 

This in spite of the presence of Jon Voigt as in Ed in the narrative, Angelina Jolie’s father has been a remarkable actor, shining in Midnight Cowboy, Coming Home, Runaway Train and a few more works, only he seems to have been not just a bad father, but he is also a…Trump supporter, or this is anathema in my book

Ned Beatty shines as Bobby in Deliverance, just as did in his career, I will only mention The Network, one of the iconic motion pictures https://realini.blogspot.com/2017/04/the-network-written-by-paddy-chayefsky.html in which Ned Beatty is the head of the Network, who has to talk with the anchor that has gone rogue, he was something like what Fox has today, vicious, fulminant crazies, that a trial has recently showed that they believe none of the nonsense they spill on the air, for the deplorables that swallow it whole

 

Indeed, I was thinking about this division of America during the film, which was aired again last night, but also this morning, at the gym of the Caro park - now that is a very bizarre beano there, smack in the center (well, near it anyway) where they have a huge land, with just some buildings that have only three or four floors on it, while it is surrounded by high rise constructions with more than thirty levels

Furthermore, they even have some constructions that are in ‘paragina’, not in use, when the land is so expensive, and on the many parking lots that cover this strange thing, there are maybe thirty or forty (I did not really take a walk around the premises to count and see everything) cars that have been bought new, but now they just sit there, unused, unattended, this must be the mystery that beats the Panama Papers.

It is in the middle of what I would call Trump territory – I have an existential problem with this fella, and the seventy million that have voted with him in 2020, for if this is what humanity has produced, in the ‘greatest democracy in the world’, the man to lead our race, or at least those that live in the west, then we are doomed

There are quite a few themes in Deliverance that will strike various viewers differently, such as the clash between the city folks and the locals that live in the countryside, better said in the wild, a place that will soon be surrounded by the waters of an artificial lake, which will be used to produce electricity

 

The idea that we have to use green energy is thus there, but there is also that NYMBY attitude, let us have power without pollution, but then what about this magnificent river, or if we bring it up to today, they complain about the views that are spoiled by the wind turbines…let us get back to that leit motif…

Trump had this obsession (well, he is a man of many, but he suffers from Narcissistic Personality Disorder, so the main one is with himself) with turbines and kept making bizarre, stupid noises at his rallies, accusing the wind turbines that they kill the eagles and so many birds, which, coming from him is mostly a lie

 

The natives are a complex mix, on the one hand, you have this very talented child – who looks as if he is afflicted, and Bobby is expressing his pity…Milan Kundera https://realini.blogspot.com/2017/11/the-unbearable-lightness-of-being-9-put.html if I am not mistaken, Said in his brilliant The Unbearable Lightness of Being that we feel pity for those we consider underneath, and then there is compassion for the humans we feel to be at the same level with us

On the other hand, I have said that they would clearly vote with Trump, and what can be worse…I am also trying to be funny, as if there is still anybody around…when they stop in the forest, near the river, Bobby and Ed are taken hostage by two of these Trump voters, Bobby is made to squeal like a pig

 

Worse, he is raped and then the two locals move on to Ed, who would have to perform oral sex on one of these beats, with the shotgun pointed at his head, when Lewis is in the picture, we see he has landed in about the same spot as his companions and he has his bow with arrows, he is ready to shoot and that is a climax for you…what will happen next, will he hit a target, does he shoot, who will win?
